Hi, I’m zORA bOWMAN
(she/her)
Certified Postpartum Doula & Certified Lactation Specialist
About me
I’ve spent over a decade dedicated to supporting families and caring for perinatal individuals.
I grew up in Mendocino, California with a lot of freedom to run around with my younger sister, who was my very first baby obsession. Poor Alana. I bossed her around, smothered her, and proudly announced to anyone and everyone that she was MY baby. My love of caring for infants had just begun. I went on to nanny, au pair, work at an orphanage in Northern India, teach preschool, and eventually receive my Postpartum Doula training from Natural Resources in San Francisco in 2018 and Lactation Specialist training from With Child Breastfeeding Support Services in Santa Rosa CA in 2018. I completed a Pre-Nursing Post-Bac at SF State in 2023, a Certified Medical Assistant program at SF State in 2025. I am currently pursuing a Masters of Science in Nursing-Midwifery.
I graduated from Bard College in upstate New York in 2014 with a BA in Human Rights. My path eventually led away from the grant writing and ethics studies that I once thought would constitute my career. But, I think that being a doula has just as much to do with my humanities degree. Quality family support is a human right. I offer inclusive and informed perinatal care. With an awareness of existing health inequalities, I take my role as an advocate for my clients seriously. Confident parents who’ve been cared for, listened to, and gently coached by a great postpartum doula will help their children (and the world) thrive.
I come from a line of women whose passion is caring. My own mother (a public health nurse) is my inspiration. Her example taught me how wonderful it is to create lasting positive changes for new families. Every day I find fulfillment in the big and little moments of success that my clients and I work towards together. Whether it’s a parent taking a much needed nap, discovering a feeding position that really works, or processing a difficult birth story, each milestone makes my job the best ever.
Every family is a joy to work with! I have a special place in my heart for queer families, single/solo parents, and parents in recovery. I have personal and professional experience in these areas. If you do too, let’s chat about how I can support your needs.
